The United Nations Development Programme in the e-STAS

Viernes, 14 de Marzo de 2008

The frame conference of the Third Edition of the e-STAS will be headed by Raul Zambrano, ICTD UNDP, rapporteur, the United Nations Development Programme.

It will be entitled “ICT as a tool for human development: action lines, experiences and practical cases.”, and will serve as a framework for the rest of the Symposium.

The Symposium on Technology for Social Action will be attended by two highest level international organisations: the Organization of the United Nations and the European Commission.

The UNDP has a worldwide network of prominent personalities from academia, government and civil society in which the UN is coordinating local and global efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

The MDGs, which were adopted in 2000 by world leaders, pursue poverty reduction, education, maternal health, gender equity and aimed at combating infant mortality, HIV / AIDS and other diseases, encouraging a global partnership for development.

To achieve these objectives, more specific targets are established. One of them is the use of ICT to reach these goals.

In this way, the e-Inclusion and the use of ICT appear as one of the indicators of development for the United Nations. This premise fits perfectly with the main objective of e-STAS: adapt and promote the use of new technologies for social innovation and human development, thanks to the union of all sectors leader and active actors of social and technologic of development.
